How to Be a Braver Person

Sometimes, in order to succeed, we have to be brave.

You’ll likely face many daunting situations on your road to success. Don’t let fear and doubt keep you from achieving your goals! You can enable yourself to be brave, confident, and ready for action if you:

Reflect on Your Strengths.

If you want to build your self-confidence, be honest with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses. Likewise, remind yourself of everything you’ve accomplished up to this point. Remember that you are constantly growing; while you cannot be an expert at everything, you can strive to practice excellence in as many areas of life as possible. Don’t be afraid of trying, failing, and growing with your experiences. An awareness of your ability to grow and persevere can give you the confidence you need to tackle tough situations, instead of shying away from them.

Reframe “Strangers” as “Unmet Friends.”

While it makes sense to want to make a positive first impression, don’t approach people feeling too worried about what they’re thinking about you. Instead of viewing new people as threats or sources of judgement, view others as opportunities to learn, grow, and connect. Everyone’s life experience is unique; you never know when you’ll find someone you can learn from or who might benefit from your professional services. If you don’t connect with one person, chances are, there are many more who will connect with you.

Talk to People!

Don’t wait for people to come to you: go to them! Simply crossing the hurdle of engaging with more people can help you feel braver when you’re out in the world. Put yourself in new spaces where you can meet people. Give friendly greetings and practice active listening when you meet new individuals. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Get to know who people really are. Push yourself to be present and in the moment when you talk to people; you’ll see there isn’t much to be afraid of after all!

Plan ahead.

There’s a difference between making a brave choice and an unwise one. If you want to reduce your stress and address your trepidations head on, arm yourself with information! Do ample research before making important choices. The more you know, the better and more informed your decisions will be. Preparing ahead of time will greatly reduce your risks and help you act bravely and wisely.

Practice.

Face your fears. Practice the situations that give you the most anxiety. The more you do something, the more comfortable you will feel with it. The best way to improve is to get outside input from sources you trust. You don’t have to deal with your fears all by yourself! Your mentors can help you practice and build your confidence. With their assistance, you can train yourself to be braver as you work toward your financial and professional goals.
